Behind a mechanic’s CV: real repairs.

How to discuss technical experience in an interview.

Start with the equipment

Ask which lines and mechanisms the candidate worked on personally. An employer's name is no substitute for understanding the work.

Explore a real fault

Discuss a specific incident: symptoms, diagnostic sequence, cause and actions taken.

Clarify individual responsibility

Separate the candidate's work from colleagues’ contributions. Understand when they acted independently and when they called a specialist.

Discuss safe working

Ask how safe access and return to service were organised. An interview does not replace the checks and training required on site.

Match expectations

Discuss shifts, call-outs and preventive maintenance. Candidates should understand everyday work as well as interesting repairs.

Write a useful assessment

Record concrete examples, open questions and topics for the technical meeting. Avoid judging experience only by years served.
